Teresa S. Brooks

Teresa Sowell Brooks, 53, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at her residence. She was the wife of Terry Ray Brooks.

Teresa was born Sept. 3, 1957, in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Ruth B. and Alexander "Buddy" Sowell. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Sowell. She was a kind-hearted lady and will be missed by many family and friends.

Along with her husband Terry, Teresa is survived by her son, Terry Raymond Brooks; her two sisters, Sylvia Woody and her husband, Tommy, and Brenda Roberts and her husband, Jerry; her two brothers, Alex T. "AT" Sowell Jr. and Gary Eugene Sowell and his wife, Barbara; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with the Rev. Monty Fox officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her late mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keystone Baptist Church, 212 Fleetwood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501, (434) 239-4197.

Teresa was one of the strongest people I have ever met. Every time I was every around her she had a smile on her face. I am truly blessed to have known her and more blessed to call her my aunt. The world has truly lost one of its most remarkable people today and she will be missed and remembered by her family and friends. Love you Teresa you have definitely earned your place in heaven

Teresa took care of my brother for years, she did the best she could with what she had. She never talked to me without telling me how beautiful my girls were. Teresa was, is my aunt, when I was young (many moons ago) I babysat for her and Terry…The one thing I will always remember about her is how she would always tell me how beautiful I was…even on my worst days…she always made you smile and feel good about yourself…OH and that laugh of hers…who could ever forget that!!!
