Neas Sr.

Herbert Lionel Neas Sr., 80, of Concord, passed away April 28, 2010, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Williams Neas, and is survived by his second wife of 32 years, Arlene Stinnett Neas. Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Bedford Country, he was a son of the late John and Sally Foster Neas. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Stone, and a son, Jerry Neas.

Mr. Neas was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in Korea. He was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Rubatex as an electrician. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and vacationing at Nags Head.

Survivors also include three sons, Herbert L. Neas Jr. and fianc‚e, Ruth Ann Steinmiller, of Lynchburg, William M. Neas and wife, Sharon, of Spout Springs, and Robert T. Neas and wife, Ellen, of Lynch Station; a daughter, Elizabeth Marston, and her significant other, Richard Harper, of Monroe; stepchildren, Grey Thompson and wife, Dale, of Gladys, Mark Thompson and wife, Rita, of Burkeville, Lynn Mallott, of Yellow Branch, and Robin Thompson, of Concord; two sisters, Joyce Grant, of Rice, and Edna Burks, of Farmville; a very special and dear friend, Linda Butler, of Bedford; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residences of Mrs. Neas or Elizabeth Marston.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Derik Hamby. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 16.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad or to Hospice of the Hills.
