Dorothy Arthur Obituary
Dorothy Estelle Johnson Arthur, 95, of Coleman Falls, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at The Oaks of Lynchburg after a long illness. She was born in Amherst County on April 22, 1915.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Nickodemus Arthur; her parents, Ida Loving Burleigh Johnson and John Houston Johnson; her brothers, Louis Waddell Johnson and James Duvall Johnson; and her sister, Kathleen Johnson Proffitt.
She is survived by her half-sister, Joanne Johnson Wyatt (Henry); her nieces, Helen Johnson Leach (Harry), Patricia Johnson Beck, Martha Johnson Kirchmier (Stan) and Wendy Sprinkle Akers (Billy); her nephews, Randolph Neal Sprinkle (Vicky) and Mark Edward Sprinkle (Kathy); her great nieces and nephews; and her friends.
She attended Longwood State Teachers' College and taught school for several years in Amherst County before her marriage.
Dorothy Arthur delighted in raising cattle and chickens and having a garden on her farm.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Cove United Methodist Church in Coleman Falls by Pastor Sue Keen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made in her memory to the Big Island Volunteer Fire Department, Route 1, Big Island, VA 24526, or to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 22712 Timberlake Road Lynchburg, VA 24502, or to the charity of your choice.

Although we never knew Dot Arthur personally we have always admired this lady of Coleman Falls. Seeing her out and working her place even into her later years was something my wife and I will never forget.
