Ruby Bell Vaughan Driskill

Ruby Bell Vaughan Driskill, 92, of Forest, died Thursday, June 10, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Claude Hudnall Driskill.

Born in Halifax County on April 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Silas Leonard Vaughan and Cora Elizabeth Sampson Vaughan.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters and five brothers and is survived by one sister, Dolly V. Tuck, of Forest; a son, Claude Vaughan Driskill, and wife, Sandra, of Forest; a daughter, Janet Haught, of Forest; four grandchildren, Darin Driskill, of Greensboro, N.C., Brooke Carr and husband, Van, of Charlottesville, Kelly Haught, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jacob Haught and wife, Patricia, of Beaufort, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, John and James Haught, of Beaufort, N.C., Dylan Driskill, of Greensboro, N.C., and Sawyer Carr, of Charlottesville.

Ruby was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. She lived many years in Culpeper and considered that her home. She was a member of the Garden Club, Culpeper Methodist Church, The Sperryville Crafters Association and the Bridge Club. She was also known for her many award winning flower arrangements, her beautiful flower gardens and for being an exceptional homemaker and incredible cook.

In her last years, she suffered from alzheimer's, but still enjoyed people, traveling and dancing. Our loving mother and grandmother will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The Rev. Doug Pillow, friend and family member, will officiate. The family will receive friends and relatives between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Wilmoth "Wilbur" Moore, a longtime caretaker and friend, the wonderful nurses and doctors of Lynchburg General's ER/ oncology departments and Medical Associates of Central VA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider the Campbell County Rescue Squad and the Alzheimer's Association.
