Florence Minnix Obituary

Florence "Flo" Ann Johns Minnix

Florence "Flo" Ann Johns Minnix, 73, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at her residence. Born May 11, 1937, in Midland, Mich., a daughter of the late Anna May Bamford Johns and Allen Joseph Johns.

Flo was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she served as Senior Warden on the Vestry and on the Altar Guild for many years. She was also a member of the Bedford Lioness Club, Garden Club of Bedford and Bedford Book Forum. She was a volunteer with Bedford Christian Ministries, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and supporter of Bedford Domestic Violence Services. She was voted Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Volunteer in 1998. Flo was full of grace and pride. Her selflessness and graciousness reached many in the Bedford community. She never asked for help and never hesitated to give to others. Flo's character of sturdiness made her a pillar to her family, friends and the community. Many would say a spot in heaven has been reserved for Flo through her works on earth.

In addition to her parents, Flo was preceded in death by her husband, The Honorable W. Raymond Minnix.

She is survived by two daughters, Melody M. Kraft and her husband, Robert, of Sterling, and Cynthia M. Rebibo and her husband, Michael, of Oakton; four grandchildren, Kyle W. Kraft, Eric W. Kraft, Jacques Raymond Rebibo and Alexa Rae Rebibo; and three siblings, Marcia Naes, of Naples, Fla., Edith Guizzetti of Marietta, Wis., and Robert Johns, of Midland, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. John's Episcopal Church, 314 N. Bridge St., Bedford, VA 24523.

A celebration of Flo's life will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at St. John's Episcopal Church, with Father F. Wilson Brown Jr. and Mr. Frank West officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, and after the burial you are invited back to St. John's Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall for a reception. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540) 586-3443.

We have such fun memories of the Minnix family. Many times Mr. & Mrs. Minnix graciously accepted us into their lakehouse home way back when we were all young and silly. I remember her always smiling and laughing with a beautiful twinkle in her eyes. What a lovely woman, mother and friend she was! Our thoughts are with Melody and Cynthia and with the community of friends her life touched. Be comforted that heaven has welcomed an angel.
