Mamie G. Jones

Mamie G. Jones, of Amherst, departed this life Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, along with her husband, Eddie Maurice Jones, who preceded her in death.

Born Oct. 31, 1924, to the late Richard Sr. and Mary Lizzie Grooms, she was the fifth of nine children, all of whom have preceded her in death, Archie, Milton, Selby, Richard Jr., Mildred, Maude, Helen, Molly and Delridge. She also was preceded in death by two devoted daughters, Julia Campbell and Theresa Jones.

She was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church of Amherst and a member of the senior choir.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted son, Jessie J. Jones, of Lynchburg; nine devoted grandchildren, Elmo Campbell Jr. (Joyce), Travis Campbell (Becky), Mildred McCray (Allen), Melvin Campbell (Rochelle), Sandra Lewis (Lynn), Floyd Campbell (Shontell), Maurice Jones (Tara), Shonte' Jones and Regina Shelton (Robert); 19 great- grandchildren; six great- great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Joanne Mitchell; a devoted friend, Sadie Hendricks; three devoted friends who were like daughters, Debra Thompson, Sandra Palmer and Aretha Napier; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support, calls, cards, etc. during their time of loss.

At her request, a graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Christian Aid Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected]. Community Funeral Home is serving the family.
