Virginia Elliott Obituary

Virginia Ann Davis-Elliott

On the morning of Jan. 11, 2011, God called Virginia Ann Davis-Elliott to eternal rest. She was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Bedford Co., to the late Edmund Willie Davis and the late Rose Goode Davis; the third of twelve children. She was the wife of Deacon Alfred Alexander Elliott Sr. who preceded her in death.

Virginia joined Altha Grove Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until God called her home. Throughout her dedication, she served as a Deaconess for over fifty years and, Program Committee Chairman for the Sanctuary Ministry. At Long Mountain Baptist Church, she was a faithful Watch Care servant along side her husband. She also served as a Deaconess, Secretary of the Senior Choir, and member of the Hospitality Committee.

In addition to her parents and loving husband, Alfred Elliott Sr., she was preceded in death by a daughter, Evora Ann Jones Smith; six siblings, Lelia, James, Giles, Paul, Moses and, Charlie; two great grandchildren, Noah and Christian Elliott.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Alfred Alexander Elliott, Jr. (Jill), of Salem, Richard Winston Elliott (Cynthia), of Lynchburg, two daughters Paulette Jones (Melvin), and Lula Elliott, both of Lynchburg, six grandchildren, Cynthia Dixon (Spencer), Lisa Reed, Angela Revely (Rev. Benjamin Revely Jr.), Jenny Smith, Byron Elliott (Charrnika), and Brent Elliott (Carin); 11 great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Jeremy, Isaiah, Gabriel, Denise, Tiajera, Kaleb, India, Promyss, Devante and Leigh. She also leaves two brothers Edmond Davis (Lillian) of Stanford, Conn.., Albert Davis (Gladene), of Lynchburg, three sisters Pauline Ducksworth, of Stanford, Conn.., Emma Haley and Lucy Marshall (Layton), of Lynchburg, four sisters-in-law Barbara Davis, Reena Davis, Matilda Davis, and Nellie Joyner; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Altha Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Harper officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 2892 Eastbrook Rd. The cortege will assemble at the funeral home.
