Richard Duncan Obituary

Richard E. "Buddy" Duncan Sr.

Mr. Richard E. "Buddy" Duncan Sr., of 4126 Leda Grove Road, Nathalie, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born Aug. 4, 1932, Mr. Duncan was a native of Halifax County. He was the son of Reuben Johnson and Ellen Riddle Duncan. He was a member of the Republican Grove Methodist Church. Mr. Duncan was a member of the French Lodge # 270 of Nathalie. He served as Worshipful Master for seven years and District Deputy Grandmaster for Hubbard Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Duncan was a member of Post 342 American Legion and a charter member of the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Duncan was a retired farmer, a retired employee of the USDA tobacco grading service, and a retired tobacco buyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben Johnson and Ellen Riddle Duncan, his wife, Mary C. Duncan, and one step-daughter, Julie Orme.

He is survived by one daughter, Mitzi D. Waller, and husband, Ronnie, of Nathalie; one son, Richard E. Duncan Jr., of Nathalie; two step-sons, Earle T. Orme III, of Nathalie, and Gary T. Orme Sr., and wife, Kimberly, of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Blair M. W. Hall and husband, Jon, of Nathalie, Blake E. Waller, of Arlington, Katlyn G. Duncan, of Nathalie; four step-grandchildren, Joseph Arnold, Gary "Tommy" Orme Jr., Christopher Orme and Jennifer Orme; two sisters, Mary D. Crews, of Nathalie, and Elizabeth Slominski, of Lynchburg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Republican Grove Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Duncan family cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Oct. 4, 2010, at his home at 4126 Leda Grove Road, Nathalie.

Sending my Deepest Sympathy. Buddy was my co-worker (USDA Tobacco) Buddy and Mary always kidded that I was their adopted daughter and I was very proud of this. I owe my accomplisments in the service to Buddy and Mary. I loved both of them. I hold my memories of Buddy and Mary very dear.
