Annie Rice Obituary

Annie Woodall Rice

Annie Woodall Rice, 93, formerly of Altavista, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Samuel Russell Rice.

She was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Gladys, a daughter of the late Annie Elder Woodall and John Hudson Woodall and a 1936 graduate of Gladys High School. She was a member of Clement Memorial Wesleyan Church and an active volunteer at the Altavista EMS Thrift Store for over 20 years.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Rice and his wife, Linda, of Altavista, and Jackie Rice and his special friend, Susan Moye, of Blounts Creek, N.C.; a daughter, Joanne Rice Hudson, of Forest; 13 grandchildren; and a number of great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnnie and Jimmie Rice; a son-in-law, Tommy Hudson; a brother; two sisters; and a grandson, David Hudson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Clement Memorial Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Matt Alford and the Rev. David Bayse, with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.

The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials, consider the Altavista EMS, P.O. Box 1, Altavista, VA 24517, or Clement Memorial Wesleyan Church, 1001 Eighth St., Altavista, VA 24517.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Rice during her stay.

I helped Annie during the period of time I worked at Lynchburg Health and Rehab and I must say she was a very special lady. She was so sweet to me. Rest assured that she is in the hands of God himself...and let all of your comfort come from him. God bless you all!
