Catherine Gladys Dews Floyd

Catherine Gladys Dews Floyd, 73, of 1202 Lola Ave., Apt. 414, Altavista, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, in her home. She was the wife of the Rev. John Thomas

Floyd Sr. for 48 years.

She was born June 27, 1937, in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Lindsey and Beaulah Freeman Dews. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, an active volunteer with the Mt. Plain visitation team and involved in her ministry to God. In addition, Mrs. Floyd was the owner/operator of Floyd's Childcare Service.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John Thomas

Floyd Jr., and his wife, Terri, of Plano, Texas; three daughters, Daisy M. Floyd, of Fredricksburg, Cynthia F. Elbert, of Richmond, and Sharon E. Floyd, of Fredricksburg; three sisters, Lucy D. Rhodes, of Altavista, Mabel D. Cunningham, of Gladys, and Cleta D. Hill, of Altavista; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Grace Baptist Church, Altavista, by the Rev. Finley J. Fields, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at anytime at the residence.

GRANDMA...i love her sooo much...always laughing and smiling. I miss her and wish i could have seen her before she passed..everysaid i reminded them of you and i take that as a compliment and still do.. I love you grand ma i will make you proud like you always told me too

Hey Aunt Lil Baby! U alwayz kept a smile on my face. You lived a rich and fruitful life. Its gonna be hard for Grandma, Aunt Lucy and Aunt Cleta, as well as Uncle John. Just good to know that you're not suffering anymore. God Blessed us with your spirit for over 70 years. God saw it fit to bring his angel back. Thanks for all the memories! You, Mom, and Granddad keep watch over us this holiday season, I think we are really going to need it. Love Ya! Your Nephew Marcus!
