Dear Family,
Uncle Charles was always my "buddy" and my "hero". He and his brother, my dad, were quite a pair... working wonders with carpentry, hunting with their bird dogs, loving their families, teaching and leading others, making people laugh or cry with their stories. The last long visit I had with Uncle Charles was when Stephen died. The two of us went to Georgia for the memorial and we talked and talked. He was wise and funny and just so special. He cared deeply though he could hide it. One thing we learned from that trip was never eat at a Shoney's on all you can eat sea food night when you are traveling through North Georgia. There are no bathrooms open in N GA after 11.
Fredia, when you were little and the two of you came to live with us in Farmville, I thought I was so lucky. Your dad was an amazing man and had a generous impact on many in his lifetime.
Jamie, you were a gift to him.
Carol, you were his rock and his refuge. I am so grateful for your caring.

Dearest family members,
You have been so much on my heart and mind these past few weeks. Uncle Charles has been my "buddy" and my "hero" since I was very young. He and his brother, my dad, were a pair to behold...working wonders with carpentry, hunting with their bird dogs, teaching and leading people,
loving their families, being strong, making us laugh.
Fredia, when you were little and you both lived with us in Farmville, I thought I was so lucky to have you there. Charles was always hard-working and wise and a character! My last really "long" visit with him was when Stephen died and we traveled to Georgia together for that memorial. We talked and talked and together vowed I was never going to eat at a Shoney's again for the rest of my life. (There are no restrooms open in North Georgia after 11 PM). I guessed we talked more during that trip down and back than we had in years. He ALWAYS blessed me.
Carol, you were a rock and a refuge.
Thank you for your care.

My love to Jamie&Carol and all the family. Cherish all of your memories! He was a funny man!!!!

I will miss you Uncle Charles. You made a huge impact on my life in more ways than you could ever know. You were a very special man and when I needed you most you were always there for me. When you gave advise, you were always honest and true. I loved the visits to your house and fishing with you. You had the best smile ever. I will miss you but the time we had together will always be in my heart. I am so blessed to have known you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Fredia, Jamie, Carol and family.

~Uncle Charles~
A sweet, kind, and intellegent individual who I called my uncle. I always loved your visits to Georgia in the summertime. We would sit around and eat watermelon in the back yard. I would always give you the biggest hugs!
I will truly miss you but thankful that you are in peace now.

What a very special man, he was my uncle, but more like an older brother. He was very respectful, loved the outdoors and never forgot this family kin in North Georgia. Never did a year go by without a special visit. He will be missed in our homes and our hearts, but his memories will always remain.

During my K-12 years, there were a handful of educators who made a difference in my life. Charlie McClung, who was my elementary school principal many years ago, is at the top of the list. He was a thoughtful and caring man who took an interest in all of his students. When I would run into him throughout the years, he continued to show genuine interest in what I was doing, never failing to ask about my family and former classmates.
Mr. McClung's passing marks the end of an era. I will never forget him.

I'm very saddenned by this news and my prayers go out to all. It would be an understatement to say I was a handful for Mr. McClung, as, according to him, I was the first kindergarten student in the City of Lynchburg public school history to receive a paddling (lol). He was a wonderful principal to me and a great person that I have admired, respected and considered a friend my entire life. RIP!

I'm sorry to hear this news. Mr. McClung was my principal at Paul Munro in the 70's. I acted out quite a bit and he was always merciful, forgiving and nice to me; I'll never forget that. My prayers are with you.
