Cora Akers Mayberry

Cora Akers Mayberry, 85, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was the wife of the late James Edward Mayberry.

She was born April 28, 1925 in Wytheville, a daughter of the late John Hayes Akers and Georgia Arnold Akers. She was a retired employee of Altavista Garment, enjoyed working with flowers and was an avid animal lover, especially cats.

She is survived by one son, James "Ronnie" Mayberry and his wife Angela of Altavista; two grandchildren, Jessica Marie Mayberry and Gregory Arnold Mayberry; two great grandchildren, Kayla and Jennah Mayberry; and special friends, David and Lois Shepard and Berta Pugh.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Brady, Ronald, Jacob and Bruce Akers; and two sisters, Pearl Butterworth and Ezella Clemmons.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 at Altavista Memorial Park by the Rev. Jack Barrett.

The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence of her son James, 278 Little Seneca Road, Altavista.

The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the American Diabetes Assoc., 4335 Cox Rd., Glenn Allen, VA 23060.
