Dorothy Wright McCormick
Mrs. Dorothy Wright McCormick, 85, of Cedar Hill Drive, Amherst, and formerly of Appomattox County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, Sept. 23, 2010, at Appomattox Health & Rehab Center. She was the widow of Eugene Welton McCormick.
She was born in Buckingham County on Jan. 17, 1925, a daughter of the late Roy Banks and Lelia Adcock Wright. She retired as an inspector for Thomasville Furniture and was a member of Bible Baptist Church, attended Bethel Baptist Church and the Reigning Beauties Red Hat Society.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Wayne E. McCormick and his wife, Janice, Joyce M. France and her husband, Philip, all of Appomattox, Martha M. Shanaberger and her husband, Larry, of Amherst, and Sue M. Ramsey and her husband, Gary, of Appomattox; eight sisters, Melva W. Ayers and her husband, Robert, Hallie W. Cunningham, Roslie W. Mitchell and her husband, Charlie, Ruth W. Trent and her husband, Joel, Donna W. Johnson and her husband, Fred (Bookie), all of Appomattox, Bessie W. Shelton, Hope W. Lankford and Shirley W. Tomlin, all of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, David and Kay Robertson, Melinda and Kim Miller, Joan and Robert Morgan and Jennifer and Cole Durrill; eight great-grandchildren, Erica Robertson, Jessica Robertson, Jason Miller, Justin Miller, Nina Morgan, Brandon Morgan, Jamerson Durrill, Ella Durrill and Dorothy Mayes Durrill; a sister-in-law, Clarice Wright.
The family wishes to acknowledge her wonderful caregivers, Russell and Dottie Ramsey, Dot Ramsey, Barbara Bryant, Ruth Trent, Roslie Mitchell and Donna Johnson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert E. Lee and the Rev. Dave Peters. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, and at other times at the home of Joan and Robert Morgan, 1091 Watt Abbitt Road, Appomattox.
