Edythe Martin Megginson
God has called another angel home. Edythe Martin Megginson, 91, of Appomattox, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Riley Thomas Megginson.
Born in Appomattox County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Marshall Martin and Ethel Tatum Martin. She was retired from Amelia Garment Company, where she worked for 40 years. Edythe's love for God and her family showed in everything she did. A devout Christian, she was a faithful member of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and graduate of Appomattox High School.
Edythe is survived by a daughter, Virginia Kern, and her husband, John, of Forest; a son, R.T. Megginson Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Appomattox; five grandchildren, John Thomas Kern III (Tommy) and his wife, Sharon, Penny M. Escobedo and her husband, Alex, Pam M. Mayberry and her husband, Greg, Vicki K. Garrett and her husband, Jerald, and Paula M. McNutt and her husband, Chris; seven great-grandchildren, Jerald and Jennifer Garrett, Heather and Chase Mayberry, Emily and Austin Escobedo and Ashton Kern. She is also survived by two brothers, Gordon Martin and his wife, JoAnne, of Gladstone, and Keith Martin and his wife, Eleanor, of Amherst; and a sister, June Martin Page, and her husband, Ray, of Appomattox.
One brother, James Martin, and two sisters, Mabel Hines and Lee Plunkett, preceded her in death.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her caregiver, Dot Garrett, and to the staff at Lynchburg General who provided her with such loving care and attention.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Sept. 7, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
