Ellen Wheaton Harris

Mrs. Ellen G. Wheaton Harris, 96, departed this life Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born April 13, 1914, in Concord to the late Benjamin David Wheaton and Sally Thornhill Wheaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Harris.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, the Rev. Dr. Richard A. Wheaton, William "Jack" Wheaton, Benjamin G. Wheaton Sr. and John E. Wheaton; and sisters, Marion W. Pendarvis, Katie W. Taylor, Jeanette V. Wheaton, Lucy M. Wheaton and Inez R. Wheaton.

She is survived by two brothers, Paul G. Wheaton (Imogene) and Alexander B. Wheaton, both of Concord; one sister, Olivia E. Howard (William), of Camp Springs, Md.; a special sister-in-law, Alma W. Ferrell (John); and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at New Hope Baptist Church, with Pastor Rickey E. Ferguson Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence, 1534 Doss Road, Concord. The cortege will assemble at the church.
