George Dempsey Obituary

George Lewis Dempsey Sr.

George Lewis Dempsey Sr. departed this life Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at his residence. He was born Jan. 28, 1941, to Dorothy and the late William Dempsey.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dempsey, and his brother, William Jr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by five children, George Dempsey Jr. (Rosetta), of Lynchburg, Leonard Dempsey (Andrea), of Columbia, Md., Jerome Dempsey (Denise), of Lynchburg, Virginia Green (Marlon), of Fayetteville, N.C., and Thomas Waugh, of Bedford; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Timothy Baptist Church, with Bishop David Slaughter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the funeral home. The cortege will assemble at Community Funeral Home.
