Horace Jones Obituary

Horace Meredith "Uncle" Jones On Sunday, January 8, 2012 God called from labor to reward the soul of Horace Meredith Jones "Uncle" of Amherst, VA, formerly of Jersery City, NJ where he lived all of his adult life, except for the past four years. He was born May 27, 1920 a son of the late George and Emma (Kidd) Jones. "Uncle" was also preceded in death by his siblings, six brothers, Captain, John Billy, George (Toney), James (Byrd), Colonel, and Leslie Jones; three sisters, Beatrice Dean, Onie White and Josephine Jones. He attended First Baptist Church Coolwell after relocating back home to Amherst, VA. "Uncle" is survived by his caretakers, niece, Shirley Smith, Great Nephew, Brandon Giles and Amy Braxton; 13 nephews, Robert (Bunny) and Henry (Ruth) Jones of NJ, James, Samuel, Franklin, Larry, Willie (Pudding), Rueben (Daisy), John Leslie, Lewis "Squeaky" (Betty) Jones, of Amherst, Earl (Lisa), William (Regeana) Jones, of MD, and Sherwood Jones, of Madison Heights; 10 nieces, Betty (Paul) Blair of DC, Martha (Cephus) Witt of MD, Mary (Aaron) Rucker, of Evington, Pauline Jones and Grenda (John) Wilkes, of Lynchburg, Alberta Sandidge, Shirley Smith and Dorothy Johnson, of Amherst, Bertha (Larry) Beverly and Annie Moss of Madison Heights; 2 sisters-in-law, Edith Jones and Nancy Donigan, of Amherst and a host of great, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Pro Careers Staff, Centra Hospice Staff and Dr. McNiel of Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center Staff. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Coolwell with Rev. Charles Frye, officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery.
