Hugh Matthews Obituary
Hugh Michael Matthews, 66, of Long Meadows Drive, Lynchburg, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Janie Woodson Matthews.
Born in Battle Creek, Mich., on Feb. 19, 1944, he was a son of the late Robert Raphael and Elizabeth Driskill Matthews. Mike was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and a carpenter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael B. Matthews, of Lynchburg; a daughter, Kristie M. (Chris) Brooks, of Hurt; two brothers, William P. (Sally) Matthews, of Madison Heights, and Carl D. (Brenda) Matthews, of Chesapeake; a sister, Brenda W. (Mike) Robertson, of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooks and Braylan King.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C.(Corkey) Matthews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, in Reedy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Scott Dean.
