Josephine Warrick Obituary

Josephine Jackson Warrick

Josephine Jackson Warrick, 90, of Lynchburg, departed this life, Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Carrington. She was the wife of the late James A. Warrick. Born Nov. 22, 1919, she was the only daughter of the late John Henry Jackson and Marcella Nowlin Jackson.

She was baptized at Dearington Baptist Church at a young age and remained a faithful member until she no longer was able to attend. She attended Dunbar High School. As a young person, Josephine had a reputation of being a very good dancer and a sharp dresser. She learned to sew from her "Grandma Jackson" and became "the seamstress" for many family members and friends. She was a very loving person and brought joy to all who loved her, especially her nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her Aunt Joe.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, John Edward Jackson and Arthur Robert "Boots" Jackson, and a niece, Lucille Jackson Toler.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories an aunt, Ms. Minnie Brown; a devoted sister-in-law, Alberta M. Jackson, both of Lynchburg; nephews, Edward L. Jackson (Barbara), of Waldorf, Md., Donald A. Jackson ( Lynn), of Lakeville, Minn., Charles Jackson (LaVerne), of Lynchburg, Leonard L. Mack, of Oxon Hill, Md., Richard Warrick (JoAnn), of Madison Heights, and Phillip Warrick (Sandra), of Lynchburg; nieces, Sandra K. Jackson and Freddie Warrick Smith, both of Lynchburg; a devoted niece, Carolyn J. McCain (Danny), who were her caretakers for many years; two dedicated great-nieces, Dannette L. McCain, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Candace McCain, of Columbus, Ohio; many other great-nieces and nephews; a faithful cousin, Mary Scruggs (John); and other friends and relatives.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at New Dearington Baptist Church, with Pastor Artemus Dixon officiating. The family is receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The cortege will assemble at the church. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Spring Hill Cemetery.
