To our Dearest Kenneth....Here it is February of 2015 and I feel like it was yesterday that you left us. I still wonder why...and how....it all happened! Your mother and brother...your family and friends...we all love and miss you terribly. I look forward to the day when we are together again! In the meantime...we have our wonderful memories of you to help comfort us. Love you forever...Grandma Scroggins

Our Darling Kenneth....We love you and miss you very much! Looking back...I often think of you and how you gave of yourself so often...all the love that you showed us...the flowers you would bring me...the help you gave us with the yard work and the arbour. You always offered to help out with anything. Your memory will always remain strong in our hearts and minds....

loving you....

July 11, 2010

Good Morning Babe!

I can’t help missing you terribly every day! While knowing that you have reunited with Paw-Paw provides some comfort, it cannot relieve this horrible pain!!

Joshua and I do the very best we can! With our family chain broken, each and every day is such a major struggle for both of us. Sleepless nights, lost days. Lonely holidays, birthdays, vacations, gatherings and the emptiness we experience every day & night. Trying to have fun when we’re not. Just wondering around doing the very best we can without you. This will never change for us. Time seems to heal many others, but not us.

As we till and prepare Paw-Paw’s tomato garden, I can still see you and Paw-Paw’s proud smiles doing the very same like when you both used to do it and I’d watch. Give him hugs from us! Please let him know we’re trying around the house. We are horribly missing him too!

All I can hope is that God allows you to be with us, visiting us frequently and watching over us. Let’s have our ice cream together. I need your hugs!

I miss you SO!

All My Love to you Kenneth, My Beautiful Angel.

I Love You, SON!
Always,

Mom

Kenneth, My ANGEL-

Well, here we are...1095 days after HE took you home. Each day feels the same as the very first.

Babe, the Best day of my life was the day you came into it! The Worst day was when you left it!

Can't wait to be with you again!!!
I LOVE YOU, Kenneth!

Josh, Jac - there could never be comforting words to help sooth the pain. Goodbye is the hardest thing to say.

Kenneth, My Child
I held you as my child.
I sang to you as my child.
I played with you as my child.
I fed you as my child.
I helped you as my child.
I enjoyed with you as my child.
I took pride in you as my child.
I spoke to you as my child.
I felt your pain as my child.
I shared with you as my child.
I loved you as my child!
I mourn you as my child!
I am grateful to you as my child!
In my heart you will always be... my child too

Kenneth, THANK YOU for
your tears

your comfort
your strength
your boredom
your frustrations
your caring
your passion
your enthusiasm
your flexibility
your joy

THANK YOU for saving Derrick
THANK YOU for being you.

Kenneth, Because of You
Because of you my sorrow is relentless
Because of you I am forever indebted
Because of you I try harder to forgive
Because of you I believe in eternal life
Because of you I believe in Angels
Because of you I reflect on what matters most
Because of you I see the moon with my eyes
Because of you I listen to the rain
Because of you I felt the warm touch of lasting love
Because of you I know what the "-" means
Because of you I appreciate more
Because of you I try not to regret
Because of you I understand that children are not ours but God's
Because of you I can't wait for the rest of us to get there too
Because of you I will try harder to love others
Because of you I learn and teach differently
Because of you I will try harder to heal and be happy
Because of you I will try to live

Until it is my time to join you I shall find comfort and peace knowing you are watching over those you love. I saw your star!

Goodbye KJ, my heart will forever weep - my love is never ending

Hi again, Babe!

I made a mistake earlier...Joshua's Sailing Team is going to The Virgin Islands in the Carribbean, NOT Cancun. Oops! I truly wish he'd consider going although seems he's made up his mind & we still haven't gotten his passport so it really might be too late, I think? I truly wish your brother would reconsider. Perhaps you could persuade him!!!! Will attempt to get his passport in time, just in case! I may be able to pull a string or two(?) but doubtful.

Also, I meant to mention...I mowed the rear yesterday, Otis mowed the front (as he usually does once a week for us--Otis has been very good, AS USUSAL, to us!!). So, you thought I always mowed when you didn't? ha! I pulled weeds in the rear garden & then began to weed wack. Only I ran out of trim in the wacker again, but previously had purchased, or 5 or 6, refills only I cannot find them in this mess, go figure! Therefore, I had to finish up the work on my hands & knees with scissors. Yes, that was a funny sight. Alas, it took all of 2+ hours to do the entire job which you would have completed in about 5 minutes!! I AM getting better with the trimmer though...you'd be proud of your Mom, I know you would!!! If I hadn't had to cut with scissors, perhaps I'd have finish up in, oh, about 1/2 hour total (including weed pulling). Not too bad, eh?

Always Loving You, Baby!!!

Hey My Sweet Baby!

Wanted to “THANK YOU!” for making your Father better! He’s doing great!, considering :(. He got a cast on his left arm & thumb Wed. & went to the eye doctors yesterday. His eye is just fine…He hasn’t lost any vision @ ALL & needs NO surgeries! His vision in BOTH eyes are still 20/10, better than perfect, as always!! Grandma Surber took out the stitches from his lip yesterday also. He’s doing great, other than a few bumps & bruises & of course, his head is really, really hurting but his fractures will heal with time. As Always, SUPER GREAT JOB, KENNETH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to our Pearl Jam concert Tues night. Joshua backed out last minute, that’s ok, you probably would have too due to work, like you said. An “old friend” from high school Matt Thompson (Big Matt) went w/me. PJ played from 8:10 to 12:30am!!! It was Terrific!! But they didn’t play ‘Rats’, Bummer! Joshua & I are going to see Nickleback & Chevelle for you Wed, July 26th @ Merriweather. Still can’t find my CD, must be in your room @ PawPaw’s? ha! Jeff is wanting to go w/us but Shane doesn’t like Nickleback. We’ll gig for you, Baby! Jeff & Shane have been working hard up @ the River. He’s finally getting electric on the property. Costs a lot more than they told him it would, figures. (I told him, ha) When we tube the river this year, I’ll ride your raft & take your poles to try to fish for you instead. Jeff said you were gonna ride the tubes because they looked like more fun. We’ll ALWAYS Be With You, Kenneth & You With Us!!!!! When we go, we’ll feel you SHINING DOWN upon us, laughing & giggling like you do. It’ll be fun, right?!

Sam isn’t doing so well. Aunt Debi took him to the vet last night…He has a failed kidney, a few stomach ulcers & one in his mouth. With his rotting teeth, he cannot eat very well & is really hungry. She’s thinking about lying him down so you have one of your favorite buddies to play with. Sam would like that!!

If you were here, you’d say “Jeese, Mom!!” ‘cause our house is a wreck! Josh & I will get things together soon…well…I will, I promise! We’re gonna get your “TV” room back in order so Joshua can use it like you used to. You’ll be proud. Gary is off next week & he, Joshua & I are going to put the other engine mount & that other part on the Eagle. You know, it’s Josh’s car now, woo-hoo! Someone just wrecked into it Sunday, they broke the driver’s mirror & scratched same side. We have the wheel cover & will file a police report. The state inspection expired & it got towed, go figure! Should pick it up today. Josh has been looking @ a Mustang, yeah, right! We were supposed to get his Learner’s Permit Tues. but ran out of time & Josh forgot about me yesterday, he came home too late. We’ll try again today if they’re not too busy.

Your Father & I took fresh flowers out for you again Tues. & I chose a little red plant. He’s good @ flower arrangements & does a terrific job. I’m still picking out flowers by the time he’s done!! I will come to see you in a bit to give them all water, there’s been little rain lately. I hope they’re ok.

Wanted to send Joshua to Cancun, Mexico w/his sailing team in two weeks but he wants to stay home, for personal reasons. I’m thinking of going to Grandma & Don’s friends, Wendy & John’s, in England for a week sometime this summer. Wishing I could take You & Joshua!!!! You know, Don just back from visiting them and Grandma & Don are fine. Pawpaw just returned last week from visiting my brother, Larry, in Albequerque. He’s doing really good. Same ‘ole, same ‘ole.

Trying to golf quite a bit lately, have another tournament next Thurs. @ Va Oaks where I play weekly w/Pawpaw, Clint & Scott. It’s a Women thing & begins after I play w/Pawpaw. On Wed.’s, I play w/my Women’s League @ Westfields. They are a lot of fun. Two weeks ago I won a prize! Scott has been staying busy w/his golf instructor’s work @ Va Oaks & his “new” lawn business. He’s doing pretty good…you’d be proud of him! He enjoyed fishing w/you @ his last tourney in Md the other week. SUPER JOB catching the “Big One” for him, Baby!!!!!!! You know he couldn’t have done it without YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MISSING YOU SO FRICKING MUCH, “My Precious”!

ALL MY LOVE FOREVER & EVER, KENNETH!!!!!!! See You in a Few!

TO MY VERY SPECIAL AND DARLING GRANDSON, KENNETH! From the moment you were born, you were such a big hit with your Mother, Father and of course, your Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. You were your own unique person...from little up, you were always there to lend a helping hand to whom needed help. You always worked hard at whatever you did...pulling weeds for Grandma, helping me to plant trees, laying pavers for the arbour, digging up dirt. You took pride in every job you did. What a strong young man you were. When you would hear Grandma talk about a big project she had to do, you'd say...'Grandma, I'll do that for you'. You were a very big helper and always there if I needed you!

I remember how proud you were when you started your lawn mowing business. You worked so very hard at that, a young man your age with his own business. Such an accomplishment and something to be very proud of! You liked to work on cars...I remember how excited you were to get that old car from Uncle Jay. You had big plans to fix it up. You tried many jobs, working hard at them all.

I enjoyed spending time with you...working with you on a task, going out to dinner for your birthdays...sharing Christmas celebrations, family barbecues, shooting pool together at Grandma's house during family get togethers...and when you were smaller, watching you play soccer, having a day out at Kings Dominion with several of your Cousins, Grandma and Don. We had fun going to the swimming pool at bull run with your Cousins, Mommy, Don and I.

Hearing about your fishing trips, seeing a picture of the fish you would catch...and that smile on your face, told the story of how happy you were. You loved to go fishing with your brother Josh, your Mom and others! You and Josh were so close! What a nice family you made. Just watching you grow into a handsome young man was a treat. You helped out so much with your little Cousin Derrick as well. He loved spending time with you, having fun with you... and you with him. What a close relationship you had. When Aunt Debbie needed help, you were there. Helping her move furniture or whatever the task...you were there.

As for Grandma, I enjoyed our little talks and time spent together. And when your schooling years came to a close, oh how handsome you looked in your graduation gown.

You were always a very polite and mannerly young man from little up! That always impressed me! Always greeted Grams with a big hug, that made me feel so good! I'll miss those hugs and cherished moments together Kenneth, I wish we would have had more. I'm thankful for the many pictures we have, the gifts from you we received over the years, the precious memories...these all will be kept in my heart and in my mind, and will stay alive forever! You left us too soon...too suddenly!

I know you are happy with God now and away from the trials and temptations of this world. Rest in peace, with our heavenly father.

I love you so very much, Kenneth and will carry this empty spot in my heart until we meet again....signed by your 'Heartbroken Grandma', Sondra L. Scroggins
