Estelita Maria Westhoff Estelita Maria Westhoff, of Dumfries, Virginia succumbed to cancer on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Potomac Hospital.

Estelita (Lita) was born in Kohala, Hawaii, October 28, 1946, to Roman and Claudia Valite. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities in 1968 from Gonzaga University. While attending Gonzaga University, Lita met her husband, Jim.

After their wedding, Jim and Lita moved to Okinawa, Japan for 8 years. In 1976, Jim, Lita and family moved to Dumfries, VA, where they currently reside. They have been married for 43 years.

During her 35 years of teaching, Lita was a well loved and respected educator. She was considered an important member of the education community at John F. Pattie Elementary School in Prince William County, Va.

Lita enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Lita was preceded in death by her granddaughter Sophie Thitoff. Lita is survived by her husband, Jim, her son Brian and his wife Jeni and their sons Jackson, Connor and Ryan; her daughter Vanessa Thitoff and her husband Chad and their daughters Emma, Madelyn and Chloe; her sister Arlinda Andersen and her sons Nicholas and Gregory. She is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, and nephews from Idaho and Washington.

The viewing is Tuesday, September 21, from 4 to 7 p.m, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192 and services will be held, Wednesday, September 22, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 18825 Fuller Heights Rd., Triangle, VA 22172-2007 at 11:30 a.m. Interment immediately following at Fairfax Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309. Arrangements by

Miller Funeral Home.

Jim, I'm so sorry for your lost. I have happy memories of us, Lita and your family that Thanksgiving on the farm. This Honolulu girl had never experienced farm life. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

It has been 25 years since I had the pleasure of having her for my 4th grade teacher. We were talking about Mrs.Westhoff today and wanted to contact her to see how she was doing. We moved the year she was diagnosed. I googled her to get a contact email and this is what we found. When I think of Lita Westhoff, I think about how she was always ready to help those in need at a moment's notice. She was a dedicated educator who cared about meeting the needs of every student. She also had a great sense of humor. Students responded to that humor and learned readily in her classes. She will be greatly missed.
