To have had the honor and privilege to have met and know Joe Thomann and to in some small way have been a member of his extended family, I can say without out a doubt that he was the type of person that upon meeting even for the first time, had a sense of calm grace and pure modesty that is so rare in this day and age. I have met many people in my life, but to know Mr. Thomann was to know a true gentleman. I truly believe that the entire Thomann family now has the best guardian angel ever looking over them.

My sincerest condolences to all of Joe's family. Joe was a role model for us all in ESU. It was truly a privilege to work next to him. As a young E-man I met Joe on my first job of my first tour and knew then and there he was a cop's cop. In a class by himself, Joe will long be remembered around the gray tables.

Dear Frances and the entire Thomann Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences in regards to your great loss. My name is Robert Benz and I had the distinct pleasure to have woked with Joe in the Emergency Service Unit of the NYPD. When I was a young officer newly assigned to ESS#3 in the South Bronx, my supervisor was Sergeant Joe Thomann. Joe became my mentor and teacher and took me under his wing, teaching me the in's and out's of my new assignment in ESU. I remained in Emergency Service for 16 years and although I worked in various assignment's within ESU I always had the pleasure of relying on Sergeant Joe Thomann for his expert knowledge and helpfull advise. Joe had a reputation for honesty, integrity and dependability. His keen sense of humor and loyalty to his peers and associates made him a favorite among all who knew him. Life itself is not important, what is important is the impact your life has on others. Joe was always a man of outstanding character, he was a good family man, a good father and a good cop. Joe had a positive impact on my life and on the lives of all who woked and knew him. I am a strong believer that there is a hereafter and when our journey on earth is over, I know in my heart of hearts that we will all meet again. May Joe rest in peace and may God bless Joe's family and grant them comfort in their time of suffering.

My deepest regrets, Joe taught me a lot as a young cop in ESU and then again as a new Sergeant there. He was truly a gentleman and a great mentor.
