Joan Applegate Obituary

APPLEGATE-Joan Felice. January 8th 1932 ~ October 9th 2014. Born Joan Walshak in Brooklyn, NY, Joan was a beloved and devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She loved all of God's creations, especially Birds. In the 1950's, Joan received a scholarship to Pratt Institute for her wonderful fashion illustration. Joan was a Bay Shore resident for over 40 years, a member of St. Patrick's Parish. She was a care provider in her community and although getting her driver's license later in life, she went on to drive the school bus for children with special needs with Suffolk County Transit for 20 years. Joan was the beloved wife of George Addison Applegate for 55 years; whom she leaves behind along with their three children Sara Dahne, Martha Rose Applegate, and Kyle Applegate-Erp, to whom she passed on her creativity. She was also very proud of her five Grandchildren: Karl, Vanessa, Ian, Natani and Haiko. Joan also leaves behind her Eldest Sister, Sister Rose Anthony Walshack, O.P. and her younger Brother, Louis Walshak as well as 27 Nieces & Nephews and joins her siblings Tony, Mary, and Helen in heaven. Her sweet nature will be missed by all. A memorial mass will be held November 13th at The Sisters of St. Dominic Old Chapel in Amityville at 1 PM.
