Julia Jean Pais, 89, of Panama City, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2011, at a local hospital.

She was born in Lowell, Mass., and had lived in Panama City for the past 33 years. Mrs. Pais retired as the head teller at the Bank of New York. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed music and dancing. Julia was known by her friends for her wonderful, quirky sense of humor. Mrs. Pais was a parishioner at St. John's Catholic Church, and enjoyed spending time with her church family. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Pais, in 1999.

Survivors include her daughters, Laura Fries (Paul Linus) and Beatriz Durand (William), all of St. Augustine; a sister, Laura Bropson (Nicholas Gagliardo) of Elmhurst, Queens, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Christopher Fries (Rebecca) and Taylor Durand (Tamara Zouboff); a great-grandson, Oscar Durand; and her beloved puppy, Hyacinth.

A funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. George Zieba officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, June 5, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Julia's name may be made to either the Feral Cat Rescue League of Panama City Beach or to the Bay County Humane Society.

We will miss her. Her dog Hyacinth was a regular at our grooming shop and we will miss the conversations we all had with Julia. She was a very sweet lady.
