Virginia W. Seltzer died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, Fla.
Born June 27, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., "Ginny" had been a resident of Bay Point in Panama City Beach, Fla., for almost 25 years.
"Ginny" is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Stanley L. Seltzer; their loving daughter, Linda Jane Schenck and husband, George, residents of Seaford, Del.; devoted daughter-in-law, Cindy Seltzer, loving widow of Rick Seltzer, who resides in Bay Point with their son, Zack Seltzer; grandson, Trent Seltzer and wife, Laura, residents of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughter, Catherine Mitchell and husband, Col. Timothy, who reside in Tanzania, Africa; granddaughter, Michelle Cummings and husband, Kenneth, of Seaford, Del.; and granddaughter, Ashley Boling and husband, Drew, who reside in Tega Cay, S.C. In addition, there are eight great-grandchildren.
Ginny and Stan were introduced to Panama City by their son, Rick Seltzer, nearly 40 years ago, when he was assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base upon completion of pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, following his graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy. One of the F101's flown by Rick still stands in front of Gulf Coast Community College. Rick later was chairman of the Bay County Board of Commissioners.
In 1977, Ginny and Stan acquired a condo at the Dunes of Panama and, in later years, moved to Bay Point. Except for a brief period in the late 1980s, Ginny and Stan have lived in Bay Point since 1986, when Stan retired from American Airlines where he was assistant vice president of System Operations Control.
An accomplished pianist and organist, Ginny loved her music, particularly her church music. She served as organist at her church in Roanoke, Va., and played the church bells at the noon hour. For a time, she was organist at Forest Park United Methodist Church here in Panama City. On occasion, she also played piano for patients at GlenCove Nursing Pavilion in Panama City some years ago. During the years when Ginny and Stan lived in New York City, she entertained patients at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with her daily piano performances.
She was an ardent bridge fan and delighted in playing duplicate bridge with friends at clubs in Downtown Panama City and in Panama City Beach. Ginny was a member of the America Contract Bridge League.
Above all, Ginny was driven by her deep and abiding love of family. Her vivacious and joyful spirit will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know her, and whose lives were brightened by her very presence.
Services will be private, for immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, Ginny would appreciate donations to the Rick Seltzer Community Park, P.O. Box 27431, Panama City Beach, FL 32411.
