Phyllis Harris Obituary

Phyllis Eleanor Herbert Harris passed away peacefully in Panama City on April 12, 2011. She was 87 years old.

Phyllis was born to the late Arthur Charles Herbert and Emma Eliza Cartwright Herbert in London, England, on May 18, 1923.

Phyllis served in the Women's Royal Air Force in England during World War II. She came to the United States soon after the war ended, and, after settling in Panama City, married Jase Clemmons Harris. For over four decades Phyllis was a devoted employee of Black Insurance Agency, and served as their office manager for many years. Phyllis had an extremely strong faith in God, and was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church throughout her life. Phyllis also had a great love of ballroom dancing.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Jase Clemmons Harris; her sister, Ivy Victoria Harper; and her brother, Arthur Charles Herbert. She is survived by her daughter, Sealy R. Harris and her two children, Jase Thomas Ledman and Brynn Victoria Ledman; stepson Jon Lamos, his wife, Lisa, and their three boys, Zack, Luke, & Drew; two nieces, Andrea Phyllis Harper and Victoria Jean Smith, and her family; and best longtime friend, Sylvia Viehweger.

Phyllis blessed her family and friends with pure love for 87 years. She was patient, kind, strong, consoling when appropriate, gentle in all instances, and instinctively nurturing. She did not readily show stress or pressure, anger or disappointment, and showed only what came to her naturally - pure love. She stood for all that is right, all that is good in people, and the light of her life will shine on in those lives she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, with Father Tom Weller officiating. There will be a gathering celebrating Phyllis' life immediately following the ceremony at the home of Sealy Harris at 2349 Foxworth Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of the After School Assistance Program (Friends of ASAP), 1802 Flowers Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405, or Castaway Cats, P.O. Box 291, Panama City, FL 32402.
