Marjorie Thrash Obituary

Marjorie Glynn Lewis Thrash, 92, of Panama City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011. She was born on Dec. 20, 1918, to Carrie Lee and Collier Lewis of Damascus, Ga.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Frank Mathis; her sister, Doris Shingler; her husband, David Clifton Thrash; and two infant sons.

She leaves her two daughters, Marjorie Sue Campbell (James D.) and Betty Jane Langbehn (Craig); five grandchildren, Shanna Campbell, David Campbell, Michael Langbehn (Kym), Tracy Langbehn and Travis Langbehn; five great-grandchildren ,Campbell Swatts, Camryn Swatts, Mack Langbehn, Chase Langbehn and Kassidy Langbehn; sisters-in-law, Mary Helon King and Flora Dupree; and seven nieces and nephews.

Marjorie attended Georgia State College for Women. In the early 1940s, she contributed to the war effort by working on the Liberty Ships in Panama City as a riveter. She was a homemaker and also worked in sales as manager of Annette's Dress Shop in Tallahassee, Fla. Following her husband's death in 1981, she moved to Panama City to be near her children and her sister-in-law, Jenette Mathis. During the years that followed, she enjoyed traveling with her sister and sister-in-law, including trips to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Japan and China. She will be remembered for her strength and wisdom and for her selfless devotion to her family.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. EDT on Saturday at the Blakely City Cemetery, Blakely, Ga., In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 2925 Martin Luther King Blvd., Panama City, FL 32405, in memory of Marjorie Thrash.
