Owen Lawrence Obituary
Owen D. Lawrence, 97, passed away peacefully at home February 27, 2016 in Houston.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mizell Lawrence; two grandchildren, Alphonso Harrell and Reginald Mathews; two great-grandchildren, Leah and Regina Griglen.
Owen leaves behind three daughters, Mary Humphrey, Shirley Harrell and Lenotie Mathews; grandchildren, Deborah, Harriett, Arthur Jr., Daryel, Edie, Mia, Lenora and Letitica; fourteen great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Born September 16, 1918 in Cottondale, Florida to parents Jesse and Mary, Mrs. Lawrence was a phenomenal woman who loved the Lord and was a long-time member of the Greater Bethel Avenue AME Church, and the Jolly 17 Social Club. She will be fondly remembered for her great love of family and her cooking-especially her ever present pound cake. Owen also remembered and enjoyed a great fondness for the old Brooklyn Dodgers.
A memorial service is planned for 11 AM Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The prior hour from ten o'clock until eleven o'clock that morning is designated for a visitation with family and friends.
