Robert Klein Obituary
Dr. Robert R. Klein, 75, son of the late John A. and Sophie T. Klein, Mayfield Hts., Ohio, passed away in Tallahassee, Florida, on March 27, 2016.
A resident of Baypoint, Panama City Beach, FL, since 1990, he has also resided since 2000 in Tallahassee, FL.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 23, 1941, Dr. Klein graduated from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN, in 1963 with a B.S.Chem.E. He obtained a M.S. in 1965 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1969 from the Yale Graduate School, New Haven, CT. He was formerly employed by International Paper, Arizona Chemical Division, as Director of Corporate Technology, Panama City, FL from 1990-1999 where he obtained 2 U.S. patents. He was an Asst. Professor at FAMU from 2002-2004. He worked for various corporations in the chemical process industry for over 30 years. He developed the Klein base for Polaroid Corporation, 1970-1974, and obtained 12 U.S. patents while a Senior Project Manager at Exxon Research & Engineering Co., Annandale, NJ, 1974-1986.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Olivia Paiva Klein; a brother, John Richard Klein (Patricia), Lake Orion, MI; a daughter, Dr. Victoria C. Konar (Shameek), Houston, TX; two sons, Robert Christopher Klein, Savannah, GA, and John Charles Klein (Stephanie) Temecula, CA; three grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Konar, Trevor Klein, two granddaughters, Haley and Sydney Klein; one nephew, and three nieces.
Dr. Klein enjoyed designing fine furniture, woodworking, creating fine art, golfing and sailing.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL, 32303. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32301. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lighthouse of the Big Bend, 3071 Highland Oaks Terr., Tallahassee, FL, 32301, (www.lighthousebigbend.org).
