Dorothy C. Thacker

Age: 105 • Roanoke

Dorothy Elizabeth (Carroll) Thacker, 105, widow of Frederick Duke Thacker, formerly of Staunton, died Monday, December 19, 2016, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 16, 1911, in West Augusta, a daughter of the late Edward Kenney and Jane Elizabeth (Whistleman) Carroll.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Thacker was employed by Staunton Military Academy with 23 years of service.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Frederick Lee Thacker; seven sisters; a son-in-law, Norvell W. West, II; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Lee Burleson Thacker.

Family members include two sons, Frederick Carroll Thacker of Shawnee, Kansas and Charles Edward Thacker and wife, Lupe Rios Thacker, of Fulton, IL; a daughter, JoAnn Thacker West of Roanoke; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Memorial Baptist Church by Pastors Mark Jones and Temple Myers.

A private burial was held in Thornrose Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, VA 24401 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.

My family was very saddened to hear of the passing of our Aunt Dorothy. She was a precious and amazing lady. I grew up in Staunton, Va and have wonderfull memories of her and Uncle Fred. Our hearts and prayers go out to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

My grandmother was a wonderful person who will be missed by all that loved her. She and my granddaddy always gave me their undivided attention and love. I always spent time with them in the summer during school break. I have many cherished memories of our times together.
