Ryan Stratton Obituary

Lifelong Fairbanks resident Ryan Henry Stratton, 30, passed away May 28, 2011. Ryan was born March 14, 1981.
He had kind of a stubborn streak in him even before he was born. His mom was in the delivery room for hours because every time the doctor got him turned over for delivery he would turn himself back. Finally, the doctor said his mother couldn't take much more of it and recommended a caesarean; they've been at odds ever since.
Ryan's life was not an easy one, but whose is when it comes right down to it. After finding Lathrop High too boring and having more fun skipping class, he consented to going to the Alaska Guard Youth Academy where he did exceptionally well and got his high school diploma. The Navy promised him to see the world, but after time in the Great Lakes he decided that was not for him. After many tumultuous years, Ryan moved back home with his father Hank and companion Sabine. Here his life was finally coming together with family, friends, work, self-worth and confidence.
He leaves behind numerous uncles and aunts, cousins, friends, and acquaintances from his 30-year life: his sisters and brothers-in-law, Chandy and Rick Rector and their children Brenden, Chelsea and Jenna of Rochester, N.Y., and Tamara and Jeremy Grass and their children Silas and Cholena of Fairbanks; mother Ruby Stratton of Anchorage; and father, Hank Stratton of Fairbanks.
His life tragically ended in a boat/drowning accident at Olnes Pond on May 28.
A viewing will be held at Fairbanks Funeral Home from noon-2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, with a funeral service beginning at 2. Burial will follow at Birch Hill Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be at Hank's home after the cemetery service at 750 Amanita Road, near 5.8 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road. Tamara Grass may be contacted for further information at 460-2388.
Arrangements were entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home & Crematory.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope! What a blessing for him to have been home when you returned from FL and to have been able to spend those last couple months with him and experience such a wonderful change in him. The joy he left you with is a tresure in your heart as well as the thirty years you were blessed to have had him in your life! No bond is as great as that between a parent and child and I understand the loss of someone so close is ever so difficult to bear. I share your grief and as always, you are in my heart and prayers!
Love you,
Bonnie
