Bryan Borjesson Obituary

Bryan Franklin Borjesson died quietly in his Fairbanks home on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. He was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Washougal, Washington, and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Camas High School and moved to Fairbanks to join his brothers and father. Bryan received his engineering bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Alaska.
Bryan lived and worked in Fairbanks for 60 years and was a professional engineer and owner of Borjesson Consulting Engineers. He was proud of his involvement with the North Slope oil startup, university construction, private and commercial property inspections and innovative cold climate engineering.
Bryan enjoyed anything to do with guns and was a skilled gunsmith. He loved to camp and to cruise with the love of his life, Betty. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Elks, a life member of the Pioneers of Alaska and a private pilot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric Stanley and Ina Mae; brothers Gordon Stanley and Clarence Harry; and step-son John Albrecht.
Bryan is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Dawn (Glenn), of Juneau; son Thor, of Washougal, Washington; step-daughter Oki, of Fairbanks; and step-grandchildren Kristina and John.
A family memorial service will be held later and his ashes scattered near his childhood home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Betty Madson Scholarship Fund at the University of Alaska or charity of your choice.

I worked with Bryan during my energy conservation days decades ago and had a good conversation with him a year ago when I ran for the GVEA Board of Directors. I always came away enlightened with his enthusiasm.

My dear, dear Betty, I am so sorry for your loss. I know Bryan's spirit will remain with you to give you courage and support until you meet again. You must treasure the memories of the time you had together here. John will enjoy him until it is time for all of you to be reunited.
Love,
Renée

I was lucky enough to care for Bryan in his final weeks. My thoughts are with his lovely wife Betty, his caring son Thor, and the rest of his family I did not have a chance to meet. Bryan's stubbornness drove me crazy the first day I met him. But by day two, he completely won me over. Throughout the next few weeks I got to know Bryan and I truly admired that same stubbornness and his strength all the way until his flight home. He's someone you can't forget. His laugh and his final words to me as he left my hospital will stick with me. I am so happy he made it home.

I have known Bryan since we were working on our Master's at the University. He was always fair and honest. He was an asset to the community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryan's family. I worked for Bryan in the early 80's at King Steel, Inc., Air Design & Analysis, and Bryan Borjesson Consulting.

Bryan was a wonderful boss and friend. He was our photographer at my wedding and reception.

He had the guys in the shop at King Steel fabricate a great meat cutting table for us to process game meat. I'll never forget him saying to Make it solid, it needs to hold up to Sonny throwing a moose quarter onto the table! We still use it to this day.

Bryan was an original. He always had a smile and words of wisdom if you were down. I could always count on him. He was more than a business associate, he was a friend.

Bryan will be missed. He had a great sense of humor. He had great passion about his work and the direction of our community and state.

Very sad to hear this news.
