Buddy McCarter Obituary

Buddy McCarter of 7821 Carnostie Drive, Laurinburg, died peacefully on July 31, 2009 at his home. He was born in York, SC, the son of the late W. Gettis and Katherine Morton McCarter. He attended Clemson University and graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. A graduate of Laurinburg High School in 1959, he kept in touch with life long friends and never forgot a name. He became the President of McCarter Electric following his father’s death and took the company from seven employees to and average of 170. He believed he kept top quality employees because he pays them well for a job well done. Much of his time was spent working in the prisons with men who had alcohol and drug problems, caring for his mule Sally II and enjoyed very much getting her mixed up with his wife, Sallyone. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Stanton McCarter of the home; a daughter, Susan Elaine McCarter and son, Rodney Dennis McCarter and wife, Tammy McCarter both of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Morgan Elaine Parker, Megan Elaine Parker, and Bryson Dennis McCarter; also survivors are Anna Miller Slaughter of Laurinburg, Mary John Slaughter of Nags Head, and John Harrison Slaughter, IV of Laurinburg. A private memorial service will be held for Mr. McCarter at his home on Sunday, August 2, 2009. The family invites friends to celebrate the life of Buddy McCarter at his home at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 7821 Carnostie Drive Laurinburg, NC. I'm greatful for the fellowship that I shared with Buddy over the years. Whenever Buddy gave you a compliment, You knew that he was sincere. I'm thankful for the growth he say in me over the years, and would tell me that from time to time. May God continue to uplift his family during this transition in life.

I was surprised to learn of Buddy's passing today (Aug. 5) as I was trying to contact him for a reference. I worked for Buddy 3 years and knew he would be a great person to use as a reference. He had actually been on my mind the last 3 days as I visited Medora, ND. He had taken my recommendation to take a trip there a few years ago and he really enjoyed it. He touched my life.

I worked for his father Mac until his death and worked for Buddy for years. Had meant to see him on one of my trips up from Florida but sadly I'm too late. He was always good to me.

I did not find out about the death of my friend until monday morning. Buddy was a good man and a friend to all who wanted it that way. He was head strong, but humble.

I wish you the best with peace and comfort in your loss.
