Eva Lenora Melton Swartzel, 92, died on Monday, January, 23rd, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born in Boonville, N.C. to Robert Lee Melton and Faithe Ann Permealia Prim Melton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick (Fred) Lonnie Swartzel, of 44 years; six brothers, Haywood Lee Melton, Baxter Woodrow Melton, Clyde Austin Melton, Calvin John Melton, Guy Monroe Melton and Melvin Clinton Melton; and three sisters, Daisy Beatrice Melton, Lena Elizabeth Melton Parker, and Cora Lou Banny Melton Crews. She was a life long member of Charity Baptist Church in Boonville. Eva worked for a time in New Jersey. During WWII she returned to North Carolina and worked at Chatham Mfg. Company in Elkin where she met her husband Fred. She is remembered for her love of her family and friends and for the multitude of children she cared for after her sons were grown. Eva will also be remembered for being a meticulous homemaker and for her gift for preparing the best meals from scratch, especially her holiday Moravian cookies and famous nut cake.
Eva is survived by one sister Bessie Jane (Evelyn) Melton Tuttle; three sons, Marvin Richard Swartzel and wife Nancy of Winston-Salem, David Aldine Swartzel and wife Linda of Pinnacle and Kenneth Ray Swartzel and wife Peggy of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Richard Alan Swartzel, Andrew Ryan Swartzel, Ashley Swartzel Walkowiak, Katherine Swartzel McGee, Paul Eldridge Swartzel and Joseph Gray Swartzel; nine great-grand children, Sarah Lelean Swartzel, Spencer Reed Swartzel, Anna Marie Swartzel, Blakely Marie Walkowiak, Reagan Elizabeth Walkowiak, John Henry Swartzel, Joshua Ryan Swartzel, Elizabeth Ellen Swartzel and Mariella Rose McGee. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Swartzel will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Dr. Karl Minor officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
