Mrs. Lucille Bowden Baugham passed away after a brief illness at the Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville, NC, on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. She was 105 years old and a longtime resident of Faison, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011, at Faison Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Tim and Kathy Beach-Verhey officiating. Interment will follow in Faison Cemetery.
Mrs. Baugham was born on May 3, 1905, to John Moseley and Mary Rebecca "Mamie" Carr Bowden in Faison, NC. She graduated from Faison High School in 1921 and W.C. (Women's College), now UNC-G, in 1924. She married William Mason Baughamon June 30, 1928. She was a teacher at Faison High School and an elementary school in Rich Square, NC. She retired from the Faison Post Office as a clerk after thirty years. Miss Lucille led a life of service. She was a member of the Faison Garden, Sewing, and Sesame Clubs. She was the first woman deacon in the Faison Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and brothers, Moseley Carr Bowden, Henry Beals Bowden, DDS, and William Edson Bowden.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Baugham Patten and husband, Donald of Faison, NC; a granddaughter, Janet Patten Pruneau and husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Rosemary Carr and William Christopher Pruneau, all of Wilmington, NC; a grandson, Jeffrey William Patten and wife, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Alexander Mason and Abby Wynne Patten, all of Winston-Salem, NC; a nephew, John Robert Bowden and wife, Catherine of Wilson, NC; a niece, Ann Moseley Bowden Wilson and husband, Boyd of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, February 24, 2011 at Faison Presbyterian Church, Faison, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Faison Fire Department, Faison, NC 28341, Faison Presbyterian Church, 502 West Main St., Faison, NC 28341, or Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center, 748 S. Kenansville By-Pass, Kenansville, NC 28349.
