J. Carroll Obituary

J. Robin Carroll
RALEIGH
Jack Robin Carroll, 59, of Raleigh died Monday afternoon March 28, 2011. To say that he lived a full life is a bit clich?, but he did. He attended Bible Baptist College in Springfield, MO, where he met his first wife Jennifer. They began to visit churches singing together and preaching to youth groups. Robin had a heart for youth and their relationships with the Lord, along with a love for the great outdoors and recreational activities. His desire was to run a Christian Wilderness Camping program so he started Liberty Expeditions with the help of Dr. Jerry Falwell. Robin enjoyed this camp and worked diligently allowing kids from all walks of life to enjoy the creation of God through hiking, camping, rock climbing, rappelling, canoeing, and rafting.
During the off seasons of the camp, Robin was an instructor at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA until 1995 when he began at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.
Robin was instrumental in helping to start the outdoor leadership program at NC State. He was admired by many of his students, which has been evident in the long-term friendships that have developed. He taught outdoor education and student leadership classes.
He faithfully served and attended his church, where he met and married Nancy in 2001.
There are many things that were of great importance to Robin. Most important was his walk with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His heart's desire was for his life to be an example of Christ's love during health and sickness. His family also meant the world to him. Robin was blessed with two great loves. After the passing of his first wife Jennifer, Robin was blessed to meet and marry Nancy. Robin and Nancy worked together to blend their two families.
Robin was a respected man among his peers. His dedication to the people that he encountered and loved, as well as the roles in which his life took him, were a great inspiration to many. His faith was demonstrated by his actions.
Robin is survived by his wife Nancy Tripp Carroll of Raleigh, daughters Stacey Carroll-Morales and husband Oscar Morales of Creedmoor, Shannon Carroll of Truckee, CA, sons Chris Barker of Raleigh, Kevin Barker of Raleigh, grandson Dion Carroll of Creedmoor, uncle Charles "Fred" Carroll and wife Betty Carroll of South Point, OH, aunt Mary Lou Finley and husband Glenn Finley of Franklin Furnace, OH, brother Greg Miller of WV.
He is preceded in death by his previous wife Jennifer Shewell Carroll, father Jack Robert Carroll, mother Virginia Dare Carroll, brother Dion P. Carroll and uncle Arthur Carroll.
Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home, with Funeral Services to be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 12 Noon at Providence Baptist Church. Following the graveside service at Raleigh Memorial Park, a reception will be held back at the church.
Donations are accepted through the family for a memorial fund for underprivileged children to attend Christian Wilderness Outdoor Camps.

I have everlasting memories of Robin, Liberty Expeditions, the family and staff. God does great things through His people. And Robin was a man seeking God. My Love goes out to Robin, his family and friends in this difficult time of loss.

I first met Robin at Liberty University. I had him for an outdoor rec class and ended up going on a field trip with the class to Thurmond for a weekend. I had such a great experience that I ended up working at Liberty Expeditions for 3 summers. What a pleasure to work and serve alongside a great man. I learned a lot from Robin, but most importantly I learned courage and to face your fears. You definitely impacted my life and I am grateful. I have so many great memories!

As Robin's mother & my mom shared a very special friendship, I don't remember not knowing Robin! As life takes us in many different directions, we tend to lose touch with many from our childhoods; but, I have many fond memories from my childhood that include Robin and Stacie & Shannon, too! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers...Kelly (McCutcheon) Shambley
