Frederic George Schwarz passed on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Fred died at the age of 91 years in Austin, Texas. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and respected corporate businessman. Fred will be dearly missed.

Fred was the loving husband of Ingeborg Wieland Schwarz, to whom he had been married to for nearly 64 years. In addition to his wife, Inge, he is survived by his daughters, Tracey I. Krogstad of West Richland, WA, and Leslie Schwarz Allison of Austin, TX, as well as his three grandchildren: Konrad J. Krogstad, John "Jack" Frederic Allison and Christine Allison.

Fred was born and raised on the Upper Eastside of New York City, the son of Gottlob and Luise Schwarz, he lived in New York City, NY, North Bellmore, NY, Scarsdale, NY, Rye, NY, Chapel Hill, NC, and West Lake Hills, TX. He also spent many memorable summers at his vacation home in the Lake Paupac Club in Greentown, PA with his family and friends. Fred and his wife were also long time residents and members of the Governors Club in Chapel Hill, NC.

A month after graduating with a pre-engineering diploma from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1944, Fred was drafted into the Armed Forces, earning his Expert Marksman badge in training. He served honorably in WWII with the United States Army from 1944-1946 as an Operations NCO (814, Technical Sergeant) with the 146th Field Artillery Battalion. With the 146th, he served in the Army's efforts to retake the Philippines in the Mindanao and Sulu Archipelago campaigns. Later, Fred served in the US occupation forces in Japan.

After returning from overseas, Fred earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Manhattan College in 1951, where he was the captain of both the freshman and varsity basketball teams and a member of the Pen and Sword Society. Fred earned a Master of Business Administration at New York University in 1955. He also graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking Foundation at Southern Methodist University.

Fred had an extensive career in finance, starting in 1951 at Chase Manhattan Bank NA, New York City, as an Assistant Treasurer and rising to Vice President. He left Chase in 1971 and moved to Englehard Minerals & Chemicals Corporation, and Philipp Brothers (which evolved into Phibro Corporation, and Phibro-Salomon Inc., and Salomon Inc.), in New York City, where he served as Treasurer and Vice President until 1987. He was Chief Finance Officer at Ecoban Associates, Ltd., New York City, from 1988-1989 and Treasurer of Seminole Fertilizer Corporation, Stamford, Connecticut, 1989-1991. Fred retired in 1991 and moved to Chapel Hill, NC.

Fred loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing basketball and golf, fishing, going to the theatre, traveling abroad, and watching collegiate and professional sports.

A memorial service for Fred will be held on August 25, 2017 at 11AM at Saint Martin's Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas.
