Harris Pharr Obituary

Harris Granger Pharr, 21, our beloved son and big brother has moved on to his life eternal. Harris was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Charlotte, NC, Atlantic Beach, FL and spent the last four years in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, NC. Harris represented the best in all of us and his zest in life was infectious to all those whom he met in his short journey here on earth. Harris was gifted with many incredible talents of discovery and the world of science and technology soon became his universe. His thirst for new knowledge and discoveries defined his passion in life. He was a natural athlete in many sports including swimming, baseball and lacrosse and he touched so many of his friends lives over the years with his warmth and curiosity of nature.
Harris is survived by his parents, Jodi Granger Pharr & John Harris Pharr; his brother Jonathan Sellers Pharr, and his sister Rebecca Edwards Pharr all of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his grandparents; Betty Edwards Pharr & Hazel (Dux) Harris Pharr of Charlotte, NC and Lynne Granger Walter & Harold Jack Walter of Greenville, SC and the late Neil Sellers Granger.
Harris was a 2011 graduate of Needham B. Broughton High School and a rising senior at UNC – Chapel Hill. He was also an active member of Chi Phi Fraternity. Harris was nearing completion of his studies in Biomedical Engineering and had already obtained minors in both Spanish and Physics.
A service in honor of the celebration of Harris's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 112 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh NC at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 25th.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are being received by Beaches Episcopal School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida in honor of him for their new apple computer lab. In addition, donations are also being received to the Harris Pharr memorial scholarship for Academic Excellence honoring a member of the Chi Phi fraternity at Chapel Hill.
Arrangements for the funeral are being made through Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC.

Kendall and I were so sad to hear of Harris' passing. It was a joy to watch Harris grow into a such a wonderful young man but I will always remember the sweet 5 year old boy running around the soccer field. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Pharr family. Much love coming your way.

John and Jodi, The celebration of Harris' life today was beautiful. The stories from his Chi Phi brothers were packed with laughter and the joy of friendship. Our BME family at UNC isn't large, but it is a tight-knit community of smart, dedicated people. Harris was a remarkable young man and always had a smile. When he was in Jr. high school, he would often jump off the roof of our house into the pool. I would yell at him and Gardner to get off the roof. He also helped me with my computer and always was so patient. We are praying for the family and will never forget this wonderful young man.
