Melissa King Obituary

Melissa "Angel" King

November 10, 1974 - October 4, 2015

Raleigh

Melissa "Angel" King, 40, was called by God Sunday during a protracted seizure.  Born in the suburbs of Chicago, IL to Richard Raymond King and Carol Ann Palider King, she spent most of her life in North Carolina.  Melissa graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School, attended the N.C. School of the Arts and worked in the family business at Around Again and A Bridal World.  She was called by God while out of state attending the Bench Jeweler Master Program at the New Approach School for Jewelers.  Melissa was very artistic and used this gift in many ways through her life – from costume design and fabrication to website design and maintenance, store layout, and display window design.  Her other passion was her pet rats.  She had many pet rats through her life and assisted in rehoming abandoned and abused rats, giving behavioral advice to fellow rat enthusiasts and working to change the stereotypes associated with rats.

Melissa is survived by her parents, Richard and Carol of Raleigh, NC; sister, Kimberly  and husband, Brian, of Efland, NC; brother, Richard and wife, Tomomi, of Huntersville,  NC; sister, Lucille and husband, Ray, of Clayton, NC; brother, Matthew of Raleigh, NC; four nieces, four nephews and three pets: Faith, Truth and Hope.

The viewing and funeral mass will be held Monday at noon and 1:00pm, respectively, at Saint Raphael's Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of NC (www.EpilepsyNC.org/donate.html).  Please also visit www.epilepsy.com to learn more about this surprisingly common disease.

I can't count the number of smiles Melissa brought to me and countless others through her Rat Logic posts on Facebook. She was an inspiration and a true advocate who will be sorely missed. Like our beloved rats, she was taken from us too soon.

I am so shocked and sadden by news of your passing, we just spoke a few weeks ago to embark on another amazing rat campaign. I haven't had time to email you the details and now you're taken away from us.

You will be remembered and greatly missed. Say hello to Sheephead, Nibbles and all rats at the Rainbow bridge for us. Love you Angel and RIP. heart emoticon

Melissa, We shared so much together, we had so much in common apart from our mutual love of rats..I will always cherish the conversations we had, the times when we wrote to each other because we knew the other would understand. I just cannot believe God has chosen to take you now!

I am so sorry to hear this. Melissa and I met because we both had pet rats many years ago. I've never known anyone who had so much love to share with her pets as she did. I hope that her 3 girls are being loved and spoiled and know how much they meant to her. (I am
No longer a rat owner, but I only
Live a couple hours away and I would be more than happy to help with her girls if they need a home. [email protected])
