Claudia Ellis Blackwood passed away Friday, Oct. 13 at Wake Medical Hospital, Raleigh, NC. She was born May 14, 1954 in Richland, WA and as a child grew up in Pasco, WA, Manhattan and Riverdale-The Bronx, NY. At age 15 she moved to Chapel Hill and married Earl Blackwood and had two children.
A native westerner Claudia always loved the mountains and lakes of the Northwest especially British Columbia where she spent many summers at her grandparents summer home. When her children were small Claudia became an R.N. He life career was pediatric nursing working many years at UNC Women's and Children's Hospital until she could no longer continue because of physical disabilities. Claudia was preceded in death by her brother David Richard Ellis and her father Dr. Richard R. Ellis.
Surviving are her two children, Anna Ferrone and Andrew Blackwood; her mother, Marjory Ann Koehler; her three grandchildren, Ciera, Brandon and Alexa Ferrone and her dog "Georgie" and many other beloved relatives.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring staff of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Wake Med Hospital, Raleigh, NC.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 Union St., Cary, NC on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
