We send our sympathy to the entire Dale family. We know you will miss your husband and father. One of our fondest memories was to see him and Peter at the Osaka airport as we arrived at our first "foreign" stop. What wonderful memories we have of that visit and of all the Dale children while at SBS. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dan, and you too, Joan, did what you always do, years ago, that influenced the rest of my life. While at Crossroads Fellowship, you encouraged Bill to go to Japan, who wrote back to the church asking for a summer team to join Ralph and Stella. Joining that team began my lifelong interest in missions and deeply influenced my walk with Christ. There are no words to thank you enough. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Joan and Children,
Jean and I have fond memories of Dan as he would come to visit at Stony Brook the wonderful and always interesting children he prayerfully put intio our care over many years. Dan was a respected model to the faculty and staff of one devoted to Christ and the challenge His grace to the people of Japan. We enjoyed seeing his children's grasp of that language and culture. The Dale's were a Stony Brook tradition .
God's best to you Joan in this transition time, a time in which Dan has been fully caught up in Christ and has heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

After reading all that has been said what more can I add. D.T. Dale was used by the Lord to keep me in Japan. D.T. was a great teacher, leader, mentor, father, husband, and the list could go on. Praise the Lord for the priviledge of being under his care for a year. He will be missed. I am so glad to have visited with D.T. and Joan in 2008.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale were a major part of two of the most important and formative years of my life. From Mr. Dale I learned decisiveness; learning by listening and observing - a lesson I have greatly valued and passed along; dedication to a goal; the importance of discerning people's strengths and weaknesses and helping people move toward success; to enjoy and embrace the variety of experiences available in life; but mostly, the beauty of Christ and His Church.
Watching him work in Kobe gave me such an appreciation for the Church worldwide - that it is bigger than any one church, denomination, style....
Mr. Dale was a very great man. God gave him a wonderful, godly woman to live with him and work with him so many years - from whom I learned (it was in the back of one of her Bibles)that true gives to others without looking for anything in return. We were all blessed by having been allowed to know Mr. Dale.

Uncle DT had such a presence. I loved his voice and his laughter. He will be greatly missed by all of Grandma Tilley's family.

As A fellow-missionary with TEAM in Japan, I always found it a joy to be with Dan and Joan; and enjoyed the way he thought "out of the box". It was never boring to be with Dan, and his subtle sense of humor was much appreciated.Having just spoken with him a weerk before, it was a real shock to hear of his accident, and then his departure from this life. It's good to know tat Dan is with the Lord Whom he loived and served for so many years; but he will be missed here on planet earth.

Great Uncle D.T. "a tall drink of water" looked a lot like my Grandpa and he was as easy to love! He was mysterious - living in Japan, coming home on furlough and teaching us bible verses in Japanese - I still remember learning John 14:6 for my Pioneer Girl badge (many years ago) in a time when not many people were flying at all needless to say to Japan! I always have loved his artistic (hand made) Christmas cards, his poetry and his love and care for my family. His sonorous voice was always soothing, telling us interesting stories. We have loved and prayed for his family for years (and will continue to do that).
I Thessalonians 4:14 says "Them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." He went to his rest but has awakened in beauty and glory! As Spurgeon ssaid, "Blessed is death, since it, through the divine power, disrobes us of this work-day garment, to clothe us with the wedding garment of incorruption. Blessed are those who sleep in Jesus. Sleep shuts fast the door of the soul, that this dear life may enter its summer garden of ease. Oh! Happy are they who die in the Lord." D.T. is at the feet of Jesus! Praise God!

My memories are of the years in Japan when so often D.T. was the leader at a TEAM Annual Conference in Karuizawa. He was a blessing and a real statesman there among our TEAM family. After he retired I remember the beautiful ink brush cards which he sent to us. What a wonderful gift of those talented cards. What a privilege to receive one. Praise God for DT and Joan.

Great Uncle DT was a remarkable man that touched so many people's life. He was just one of those people that made you feel better just by being around him. He always made me feel special growing up and then I was blessed enough to see the same love expressed to my children, Ashlee and Andrew. Family was so important to him and he taught us all so much about life that I will carry with me forever. I will miss seeing him at family gathering. Uncle Dt was a great man.

Mr. Dale along with his most gracious wife influenced me for God and His kingdom more than I ever knew. The most graceful and gracious of couples raised a family of leaders and kind people. If there ever was a royal couple in TEAM is was DT and Joan Dale; you modeled the life in Christ in the most real way. Your kindness to my parents and your generosity to our family meant more to me than I have words to say. Thank you Lord for your friend DT and may your Holy Spirit comfort his best friend Joan until they meet again.

What a sad sad day. Mr. Dale will be missed by many. He and his lovely wife came into the store about 3 times a years for 13 years to get special boxes for him to pack and ship his precious jam. Every Christmas you could count on them to show up with 30 boxes plus. His list always got longer and longer over the years as he added more and more friends and relatives. We would talked about life and love and our children. I never knew he was a pastor. The way they lived together blessed many. He was always so generous and kind and of course brought me 3 special jars of jam when he shipped them. I still have some. The next to the last time I saw him it was shortly before his last birthday. All of his family were coming for the special day. He said to me ''Denni. i just want to make it to my birthday.'' We both smiled. The next time I saw him I said "You made it to the Dance." We both smiled again. I'm glad God let him stay and dance a while longer. With much sorrow. Love denni (The UPS Store. Raleigh NC)

It was always a special time when I was around Uncle DT. From the times I remember as a child at Grandma Tilley's to when he visited my home, I loved to listen to his stories. His voice was like music to me.
I'll miss him.

Great Uncle D.T. was always an inspiration to me. He was a tall, elegant, intelligent, spiritual man who was funny and kind and took the time to make everyone he spoke to feel special. I was always so proud to be related to him.
