Gary was a wordsmith who could spin a story into a captivating tale that would make you laugh so hard, your head would hurt. He could create a song on the fly, and within minutes be singing and strumming the tune on his guitar. And he loved his children and my sister with all of his heart, and for that I will always be grateful.
Remember Gary:
When you see a Mets game
When you hear a Ramones song
When you hear Stevie Ray Vaughn
When you hear a beautifully strummed Guitar
When you see Fireworks
And when you see his children's eyes
Gary, you will live on in our hearts and in our minds forever. We love you.

Dear JoAnn, Michael, and Samantha,
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Gary and I want to extend my condolences to you and your family. Gary and I were great friends in high school; we shared many fun times and adventures together. Senior year, Gary drove myself and another friend to a Ramones concert held in Atlantic City. We had a great night. He had a big heart and was always friendly and outgoing. I also want to convey my sympathies to Mr. Zito, Nick, Lauren, and Angela. I am so sorry for his early passing. I will keep Gary in my thoughts and prayers.

Gary Zito, a one of a kind, danced to his own drummer, amazing smile and truly a great friend in every way. His energy is everywhere now, the world is a better place. Always smiling is how I will remember you Gary.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

I can't express my thanks and admiration for you enough, big brother. You were always my friend, hero, and everyone's shining light. Thank you for the music, laughs, memories, friendship, inspiration, getting me over my fear of scary movies, and your unconditional love!! I could not imagine growing up without you. You were an angel on earth and now you fly with mom and the Angels in Heaven. I love you, Concert Man. Yesterday, today, forever!
