David Austin Page, Jr.
Durham
David Austin Page, Jr., 68, of Durham, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 after a brief illness.
He was born May 26, 1943 in Beaver Falls, PA to the late David and Delores Page. David was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School and received his Photographic Engineering degree at Rochester Institute of Technology where he was also a member of Alpha Pi Omega fraternity.
David worked at Kodak, Polaroid and as a civilian contractor for US Navy Intelligence. He retired from Duke University after 30 years of service; 10 years in the radiology department and 20 years in the art department. Over the years he was involved in various community activities: Durham Sister Cities; Durham Jaycees and serving on the board of directors for the Eno River Association.
In retirement he continued to sell many of his photographs privately, co-authored a book with Dr. Richard Zakia, taught photography classes at Alamance Community college, was a corner worker in auto racing for SCCA and presently served on the board of directors of the RIT alumni group.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Blake Page; daughters, Susanne Page Conway and husband, Shawn; Catherine Page Hoffman and husband, David; grandchildren Lauren, Molly and Ella Conway and Trip and Bailey Hoffman; his brother, John Page and wife, Pat; sister-in-law Barbara Blake Call, and husband, Jim; nieces and nephews, John, Michael and Debbie Page and Robert and Warren Call.
A memorial service will be held in Durham, NC at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Saturday August 20 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Anne Hodges-Copple officiating. The family will receive friends and guests immediately after the service in the Johnson Hall of St. Luke's.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
