Elizabeth "Betty" Swann Jones

Chapel Hill

Elizabeth "Betty" Swann Jones passed away on Wednesday, Sep. 3, 2014, after a long illness. She was born in North Adams, Mass. June 1, 1919, graduated from Bates College, Maine, and was a Foreign Service wife for 30 years. She is survived by husband Curtis Jones, still at Carol Woods Retirement Community, and her three children, sons Dr. Curtis T. Jones of Rhode Island and Dr. Steven S. Jones of California, and daughter Dr. Leslie Sargent Jones of Boone, NC. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Betty was active in Chapel Hill life in the 1970s to 90s as a docent at the Ackland Museum of Art and as a mentor to wives of foreign students at UNC-CH who needed help learning English, aand how to shop and drive in the US. She will be missed by all her knew her as an avid painter, golfer, traveler, bridge-player, and walking buddy.

In lieu of flowers any gifts should be made to the Elizabeth Swann Jones Scholarship Fund at Bates College, Maine.
