Steven Emrich Obituary

Steven Lynn Emrich

September 18, 1972 - June 30, 2017

Pittsboro

Steven Lynn Emrich, 44, of Pittsboro, NC passed away on June 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on September 18, 1972. He grew up in Huntertown, Indiana on a farm with his parents and five siblings. He enjoyed participating in 4H, playing baseball and basketball, and being in show choir.

He graduated from Carroll High School in 1991 and then attended Ball State University obtaining a degree in Math Education in 1995. In 2000, he received a masters' degree in statistics from Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. He taught high school math at both Lebanon and Carmel High Schools in Indiana. After receiving his masters' degree and moving to North Carolina in 2000, he began working as a statistician for RTI in Durham and then Rho in Chapel Hill until he suffered a severe cardiac arrest in 2011 and never completely recovered.

Steve had an infectious smile and a charm that was loved by everyone who met him. He was a generous and loyal friend and a hands-on dad that doted over his three daughters. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC and coached his daughters in recreational soccer for several years. He loved his friends and family more than anything and was always good for a warm hug or a giant smile.

Steve is survived by his wife and college sweetheart, Lisa (Barg) Emrich whom he married on June 28, 1997, his three beloved daughters, Sarah, Lauren, and Abigail Emrich, his father, James Emrich of Huntertown, and his 5 siblings, Brian Emrich and wife Kim of Huntertown, Beth VanGerpen and husband Dan of Huntertown, Dan Emrich of Huntertown, David Emrich and wife Ginger of McCordsville, Indiana, and Michael Emrich of Carrboro, North Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen (Gresley) Emrich.

A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC on July 5,2017 at 3pm with Pastor David Goehring officiating. His body will be cremated and ashes interred at the church.

Steve's greatest joy was his daughters and he wanted to be able to provide for them after his death. In lieu of flowers, he requested memorial contributions be made to their college funds. It has been set up through the Utah Educational Savings Plan(UESP) gift program. You may print out a Gift Notice under "give a gift" from the website gift.uesp.org and specify his three daughters' names and their home address.

To all of Steve's family, the ones I know and the ones I don't, I send my sincere sympathy on Steve's passing. He was far too young. I knew Steve as part of a big 4H family in Allen County, Indiana, but have not seen him since then. Still, those 4H kids were all "my kids," too, and I take his death somewhat personally. I am so sorry that he has been taken from you, but rejoice in his faith and the knowledge that he lives now and forever in the presence of our King. Our Molly died 2 years ago, so I know there was a 4H reunion in heaven when Steve arrived.
