95 passed away peacefully on July 4, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born on August 12, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Ambrose and Grace Cramer.
The majority of his life was spent in Santa Barbara, though he also resided in Paris, France, Rockport Maine, and Charlottesville VA., once describing himself as a "bi coastal sybarite". While in Santa Barbara he was associated with Sears Realty Company in Montecito, the owner of a Seaside Oil Distributorship in Summerland, and a partner in Seacoast Marine. Ambrose served as a Director of the Montecito Water District from 1976 - 1985. He passionately supported, acting as their business manager, the Cate School in Carpinteria, and Crane Country Day School where he served as Board President and as board member for many years. He was an alumni of both schools, as well as Yale University. Other affiliations include the Santa Barbara Yacht Club and the Birnam Wood Golf Club .
Ambrose will be remembered fondly for his bold brand of humor, his passion for sailing, his love of fast moving luxury automobiles, and his lifelong enjoyment of word play.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Rachael T. Cramer who died on May 1, 2013, and an infant son, Kevin Cramer. He is survived by a son, Carl B. Cramer, a daughter Jill Cramer Bryson, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Final internment will be in Santa Barbara.
