Helsel, Rose L.
Rose Lillian Richardson Helsel, 89, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2014 at the Kingston home of her daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Richard Wade with whom she lived for the past 10 years.
Rose was born March 1, 1925 to Blaine A. and Lillian (Piesker) Richardson in Syracuse, NY.
She graduated from High School in Syracuse and then attended and graduated from Powelson Business Institute.
Rose was employed as a legal secretary in Syracuse. During World War II she left for factory work manufacturing 50 caliber machine guns for the B-24 'Liberator'; the plane (Fabulous Fanny) her future husband piloted over Burma and China.
Rose married Robert G. Helsel in 1948 and moved to Connecticut. She was employed in the Newtown area as a bookkeeper and office manager.
Rose and Bob were longtime active members of Newtown Congregational Church. They had been married 48 years when Bob passed away in 1996.
Rose was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Walter and Charles and sister Jane, and infant daughter Christine.
She is survived by children Rose Lynn and her husband Richard, Janet Rae, and Robert Jr., grandchildren Charity, Richard Jr., Christian and Erica and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Newtown Village Cemetery. Donations to your favorite charity can be sent in lieu of flowers.
