Margaret Snyder Obituary

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal." (Ireland) Margaret S. "Peggy" Snyder departed this life on the evening of October 29, 2010 in her home in Newtown, surrounded by her family, who loved and honored her. Peggy's strength of spirit, enjoyment of life and love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her. Peggy was born on September 10, 1939 in Wilmington, Del., a daughter of the late Willard S. and Margaret (Miles) Stewart. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Richard Stewart, and her sister, Joan S. Riley, both of Wilmington. Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, K. Michael Snyder of Newtown, and by her two daughters, Claudia Snyder-Romano of Danbury, and Heather L. Snyder of Watertown. She is also survived by her brother, W. Douglas Stewart and his wife, Merrily Stewart of Aurora, Colo.; her uncle, Richard Stewart of Newark, Del.; her son-in-law, Michael A. Romano of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. Peggy and Mike moved with their daughters to Newtown in 1979 and immediately loved their town and the friends they made there. Peggy was active in her community working in the Town Clerk's office and serving on the Legislative Council in addition to assisting Mike with his work and his own political campaigns in town. She viewed her family, however, as her finest accomplishment. Peggy remained close with her parents throughout their lives. She and Mike enjoyed traveling to many places together, whether it be as a couple, with friends, or with their girls. The Delaware shore was one of her very favorite places to be and was a hub of family activity throughout her lifetime. Her daughters were her pride and joy and could often be found along side her at her favorite shopping destinations, on weekend lunches or just visiting together. Peggy also loved spending time outdoors, gardening and decorating her home. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3rd in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 4th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown. Burial at Newtown Village Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810 in honor of Peggy's life and memory.

Dear Mike, Heather & Claudia, May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead.
Running into Peggy, usually at an "event" was always a time well had. She kept me on my toes discussing the issues and enthralled me when talking about her girls and her family. I am so very sorry for your and our loss. Doreen Kelleher
