Viola Sanford Obituary

Viola Florence (Hoyt) "Vickie" Sanford, age 84 of Nunn-awauk Meadows, Newtown died peacefully October 19, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sanford was the wife of the late Robert T. Sanford. She was born in Ridgefield August 15, 1926 a daughter of the late Willis and Florence (Stiles) Hoyt. Viola was a talented artist and drew fashion ads for the C.O. Miller Dept. Store in Stamford in her earlier years. When she was younger, Vickie loved to Ice Skate. A resident of Nunnawauk Meadows for thirty years, she lived most of her married life in Bethel. Mrs. Sanford was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and will be remembered for the excellent elaborate meals she prepared. Vickie loved all animals and birds. Mrs. Sanford is survived by two sons, David Thomson and his wife Cheryl of Arizona, Peter Sanford and his wife Katie of Southington; a daughter, Karen Perrone and her husband Stan of Newtown. Vickie especially loved her three grandchildren, Elizabeth Perrone, Nicholas Perrone, and Christopher Sanford and her five great-grandchildren, Evan Perrone-Gray, Sophia Perrone, Madison Sanford, Naomi Perrone-Gray and Cole Perrone. Also survived by a sister, Joan Brown and her husband Mark of Yorktown Heights, NY and a brother, Burton Clark and his wife Peggy of Leland, North Carolina and by her lifelong best friend Nettie Perillat of Virginia. Predeceased by her longtime companion, Willard Heimstra. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 23, 2010 at 10:00am in the Newtown United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Bald Hill Cemetery, Wilton. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home 58 Main St. Newtown Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial Contributions to the Salvation Army www.salvationarmy.org will be appreciated.
