Ethelle Luque Obituary

Ethelle Luque, age 97, wife of the late Samuel Luque, passed away on October 11th, surrounded by loving relatives at the home of her daughter, Barbara Mora with whom she has resided for 28 years. Ethelle was born in Tifton, Ga., on September 11, 1913, one of the nine children of William H. and Ida E. Wells. Studying to be a teacher, she had to leave college one year before graduation to move to New York to care for a sibling who was ill. She then worked in retail until she married Sam Luque in 1942. She and Sam raised six children in Astoria, Queens. Sam died in 1972 and Ethelle, a highly skilled seamstress for a time was manager of the Stitch-In-Time Fabric Store in Ridgefield. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and lived a life centered around her family. In addition to her daughter, Barbara, she is survived by daughter, Emily Rowley and son-in-law, Robert Rowley of Danbury; son, Samuel Luque, Jr., of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Deborah Rosenberg of Flushing, Queens; and daughter-in-law, Mary Lisa Kinney of Astoria, Queens. She was predeceased by her son, Earl Luque; daughter, Margaret Luque; son-in-law, David Rosenberg, and daughters-in-law, Eileen Luque and Patricia Luque. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Victoria Pratt and Adriana Mora of Danbury, Christian Luque of Virgina, Danielle Luque of Washington, DC, Aimee and Corey Rosenberg of New York, Jessica and James Luque and Tara Hernandez of New Jersey. Kevin Luque of North Carolina, and Eileen Luque of Florida. She was predeceased by granddaughter, Elizabeth Rowley. Her seven great-grandchildren lovingly knew her as Grandmamamama and include, Amanda and Robyn Higley, Casey Pratt, and Alayna Adesso, all of Danbury, and Trinity Solano and Noemi and Nathan-Noel Hernandez of New Jersey. Ethelle's life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 16 at the New Life Community Church, 1 Beaver Bog Road, New Fairfield. Donations in her memory will be gratefully received by Regional Hospice of Western CT/ Home Care, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810. The Jowdy Kane Fu-neral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barb n Adri,
I'm sorry this sad time has actually come. It's so unreal. It seemed like she would live forever and ever!! I know it must be really really hard for you guy right now. And I cant even imagine what Alayna is going thru. Ur in my thoughts!! Ethelle is with God now, watching over you all. Heaven has a new, amazing angel!!!! RIP Ethelle!

Barbara,I'm so so sorry about your mom. I adored her in the few months I have known her. Being her homemaker was fun for me,because she used to make me laugh at things she would say. I always told her how cute she is and she used to say she was to old to be cute,but her I told her no way,you are so cute!! God bless her and God bless you and your family.
